How To Stay Safe And Healthy During This Dangerous Heat Waves (Details)



It is no longer news that the climate has become unbearably hot it could actually boil a water.

If you are not lucky enough to have a running air conditioner all through the night or a running fan, you will end up soaking your own pillow and bed with sweats that one would think a bucket of water was poured on them.

Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has revealed that the hot climate is as a result of heat waves stemming from the emission of greenhouse gases and therefore  warned Nigerians to prepare for more hot days and warm nights.

NIMET also revealed that the common effects of heat waves on humans are dehydration which can lead to fainting or death, chickenpox, heat rash, and psychological stress.

An online health advisor, Jay Eze, also chipped in that February and March are very heated period in Nigeria and it starts cooling down in April as the raining season starts.

And as a result of this heat, an Instagram user, @justifiedfashionconglomerate, has taken to her page to share ideas on how to cope with the current climate conditions as disclosed by climate experts.

7 WAYS TO TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES DURING THIS HEAT WAVE. 

1. Keep a water bottle with you to remind you to take water. 

2. Avoid alcoholic and caffeinated drinks during this period.

3. Reduce intake of foods that are rich in protein because they increase metabolic heat. 

4. Fresh foods, fruits and vegetables are better options.

5. Monitor your blood pressure

6. As much as possible, stay indoors between 12noon and 3pm

7. Take cold baths before going to bed at night.
